Expert diagnostics, professional treatment & quality care.
We provide Consultant and Clinical Specialist level Chartered Physiotherapy working as a team for all our patients.
We take time to examine and treat you to the best of our abilities, as such we charge a little differently.
Fees are for our skills and expertise and not for our time. That's why our appointments are usually at least an hour.
We ensure the fastest recovery possible by being able to provide the skills, knowledge and experience to correctly diagnose conditions first, and then provide the right treatment to get the best results in the shortest possible time.
Wendy Emberson MCSP
Consultant Chartered Physiotherapist
Director Stort Physio Ltd
I qualified 42 years ago having trained in Coventry and Birmingham in the days before the profession moved to an all graduate entry in the 1980’s.
During these 42 years, I worked in Coventry (The Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital), Derbyshire (Ashbourne Hospital) and St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London where I was Superintendent Physiotherapist.
That was my last NHS post before I decided that I wanted to get back to treating patients instead of managing 35 full time physiotherapists and sitting on 12 committees! So I had an opportunity to take over a practice in Bishop’s Stortford in Hockerill Street and I took it and started my own private practice in 1980.
As the practice grew, I moved it from the small shop premises into our house in Grange Road and in 1986 we moved our house and practice to the current premises in Jenkins Lane.

After a career in Buying and Merchandising, I finally decided to pursue my dream of becoming a physiotherapist. I graduated in 2004 from King’s College London on the pre-registration postgraduate Masters Programme.
Following a career break to look after my two young boys, I completed a 12 month Return to Practice programme with the help and support of the team at Stort Physio. On gaining my registration with the HCPC, I was offered work at Stort Physio and joined the team in October 2012.
Since then, I have completed modules A, B and C of the post graduate diploma in Musculo-skeletal medicine.
I have also completed Level 1 and Level 2 with the Watson Headache Institute. I am keen to keep learning and enhancing my skills to ensure patients receive the best possible care across all aspects of musculo-skeletal medicine.
